j4j strives to organize events across our four categories of leisure, spirituality, education, and inter-community building. leisure events may look like pin-making in the irl or crocheting together; spiritual events include shabbat dinners and holiday observances; education events may be sit-ins or our weekly book crew; inter-community events may be collaborations with other student or political organizations!
Q: can i join jews 4 justice if i'm not jewish?
j4j is a club open to all depaul students, regardless if you are jewish or not! make sure to sign up as a member on dehub :-)
Q: what does jews for justice stand for?
we are a strictly anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, and anti-zionist organization and uphold scientific socialist principles. as jews, we believe in the concept of "doikayt" (דאָיִקייט), or "hereness", which refers to our goal of strengthening jewish communities and fighting for liberation in diaspora, rather than standing behind the illegal state of israel.
Q: do i have to be an [insert political identity] to be a part of jews 4 justice?
our club is open to people of different political identities, and we enthusiastically welcome anyone who is willing to learn. you don't need agree with the principles of j4j, but we ask that you respect what our club stands for!
Q: how does jews 4 justice define zionism?
we define zionism as a movement that enabled and supports the creation and subsequent maintainance of the state of israel, which is brutally and illegally occupying palestinian land.
as jews living in the imperial core, removed (and largely benefiting) from the violence that palestinians face in the name of the zionist movement, this is the sole definition that matters and the only one we will consider.
